Voice Coaching for all levels: Beginner to advanced
All ages
Each singer has their own unique voice!
All singers, no matter what genre they sing, should consider themselves "vocal athletes".
The physical, emotional and performance demands necessary for optimal output require that the artist/student consider training and maintaining their instrument as an athlete trains for an event.
The type of vocal coaching I do is called Contemporary Commercial Voice coaching/lessons.
What does this mean exactly?
It means that the genres I coach are pop, rock, jazz, and country and are genres that mostly deal with amplified sound. Microphone technique is a crucial part of Contemporary Commercial music performance.
Is it too late for me to start taking singing lessons?
It is never too late! You are never too old! Everyone can sing! I guarantee you that you can sing! If you are shy and nervous about lessons, I am your teacher! I used to be shy and nervous about lessons....even I get a little nervous in the first lesson!
I also help women who may have noticed changes in their voices as they approach menopause. I myself have gone through menopause and I understand the frustration that happens when your tone changes, high notes become difficult, etc.
Some of the things we will discuss in a lesson:
- first and foremost: FUN! lessons must be fun, You as a student need to feel comfortable to be able to experiment with sounds and discover your voice.
-breathing techniques. There is more than one!
- the foundations of vocalizing. How the use of resonance is beneficial for vocal health and efficiency.
- a practice plan: specific warm-ups for their voice. Such as Semi Occluded Vocal Tract warm-ups ( straw phonation, lip trills, or bubbles.
- the differences between registers of the voice.(Chest, head, mix, falsetto, flageolet, belt, whistle, creak etc.)
-to smooth out their break/ passaggio
-vocal anatomy and health ( how your voice works and how to take care of your voice.)
-about overcoming stage fright, and being mindful of body awareness.
-looking at the skills you have and building on them.

What you will need as technology for your lesson:
-a computer, tablet or smartphone.
-a video communication platform like Zoom, Skype or FaceTime.
-Ear Buds or USB microphone and headphones.
Instrumental lessons:
Beginner band instruments: Flute, Saxophone and Clarinet.
Beginner band students need an edge when it comes to band class. Each student cannot get the attention they deserve to have a good band experience.
I teach young up and coming musicians to understand their instrument, read music, understand key signatures, rhythms and musical definitions.
Learning to put their instrument together properly and get a sound out of their instrument is the key to long term membership in the band geek club!
School band offers wonderful opportunities and memories. I started in a public school band program, which let me to study classical and jazz music at Vancouver Island University.
Lessons are great if you know that your child is interested in taking band or is already in a band program and would like some coaching to get ahead.
Adults:
If you want to play in a community band, and you would like to have a better understanding of your instrument but think that being an adult and learning a new instrument will be harder, have no fear, I can give you the guidance you need.
